| This extension is based on ISO Base Media file format, MPEG-4 Part 12. It is specially designed for GSM(Global System for Mobile Communications) based phones and tablets. It should be noted that there are few cellular phones that use .mp4 extension to store 3GP video files. Besides this, the smaller bandwidth requirements lead to an easy transmission of files over the Internet. In this type, video streams are stored as MPEG-4 Part-2, H.263 or MPEG-4 Part-10 (AVC/H.263). And AMR-NB, AMR-WB, AMR-WB+, AAC-LC, HE-AAC V1 or HE-AAC V2(This is enhanced AAC PLUS) are used for audio streams. There are various programs linked to this format like QuickTime player, VLC Media Player and Windows Media Player; etc. Apart from this, the Nintendo 3DS also use its technology to play YouTube videos. These files can also be coded and deflated with open-source software. |

Furthermore, it can also provide support to the variable bit rate, average bit rate and constant bit rate. It enables makers to use non-square pixels as well. Lastly, it can process videos using frame interpolation in which intermediate animation frames are created between the existing frames. |
