Turn Your Audio into iPhone Ringtones
You have an OGG audio file that would make a perfect ringtone, but iPhones only accept M4R format. This is a common frustration for anyone trying to use custom sounds on their iPhone.
Converting OGG to M4R takes just seconds. Once converted, you can add the ringtone to your iPhone through iTunes or Finder and stand out from everyone else using the default tones. If you have other OGG files you want to convert, we support multiple audio formats.
How to Convert OGG to M4R
- Upload your OGG file - Drag and drop or click to select your audio file
- Select M4R as output - Choose the iPhone ringtone format
- Download your ringtone - Ready to add to your iPhone
The entire process happens in your browser. No software to install, no account required.
Understanding the Formats
What is OGG?
OGG (Ogg Vorbis) is an open-source audio format known for excellent compression and quality. It is popular in gaming, web applications, and open-source software. Many sound effects, game audio files, and downloaded music come in OGG format.
What is M4R?
M4R is Apple's proprietary ringtone format for iPhones. It is essentially an AAC audio file with a different extension. Apple limits ringtones to 40 seconds, and the M4R format ensures compatibility with iOS devices.
In our testing, converting a typical 30-second OGG clip to M4R produces a file around 300-500KB, small enough for quick syncing to your iPhone.
Why Convert OGG to M4R?
- Custom ringtones - Use any audio as your iPhone ringtone instead of default options
- Game sound effects - Turn memorable game sounds into notification tones
- Music clips - Convert your favorite song snippets into ringtones
- Voice recordings - Use voice memos or recordings as custom alerts
Apple charges for ringtones in the iTunes Store. Creating your own from OGG files is completely free.
Getting the Ringtone on Your iPhone
After downloading your M4R file, you need to add it to your iPhone:
- Connect iPhone to computer - Use a USB cable to connect to Mac or PC
- Open Finder (Mac) or iTunes (Windows) - Select your iPhone in the sidebar
- Drag M4R file to your device - Drop it into the Tones section
- Set as ringtone - Go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics on your iPhone
Your custom ringtone will appear in the list above Apple's built-in options.
Ringtone Tips
Keep these guidelines in mind when creating iPhone ringtones:
- 40-second limit - Apple ringtones cannot exceed 40 seconds. Trim your audio before or after converting
- Start strong - The beginning of your audio is what you will hear most often
- Avoid fade-ins - You want to hear your ringtone immediately
- Test volume levels - Make sure the audio is loud enough to be heard
If you need a different audio format for other devices, try OGG to MP3 for universal compatibility.
