What can I do on ChangeMyFile?
You can convert files and edit them with free tools. Convert documents, images, audio, and video across 870+ format pairs, then use the PDF editor, image tools, audio tools, and video tools to compress, resize, trim, and sign your files. No account needed.
Is ChangeMyFile free? Do I need an account?
Everything is free and there's no signup. Open the site, use any tool or converter, and download your result. There's no watermark on your files.
What happens to my files? Are they private?
It depends on the tool. The PDF editor and several image tools run entirely in your browser, so those files never leave your device. File conversion and the video and audio tools upload your file over HTTPS, process it on our servers, and delete it automatically afterwards. Background removal, upscaling, photo restoration and transcription also pass the file to an outside AI service to run the model. The Security page lists every tool by where it runs. We don't sell your files.
What file types can I convert?
Over 870 conversions across documents, images, audio, and video. Common ones include PDF to Word, JPG to PNG, MP4 to MP3, HEIC to JPG, and Word to PDF. If your format is common, it's very likely supported.
Can I edit a PDF without downloading software?
Yes. The PDF editor runs in your browser, so nothing installs and your PDF stays on your device while you edit, sign, redact, draw, and stamp. You can also merge, split, compress, add or remove passwords, and convert PDFs to and from Word and Excel; those tools upload the file to our servers.
What can I do with images?
The image tools cover resizing, cropping, compression for JPG, PNG, and WebP, background removal, upscaling, restoring old photos, and passport photos. Several of them run right in your browser, so your images aren't uploaded.
Can I compress or trim a video?
Yes. Compress a video down to a target size (useful for Discord, WhatsApp, email, or iMessage), trim or cut it, merge clips, rotate, remove or extract the audio, or turn it into a GIF. Video files can be up to 500 MB.
Can I record or edit audio?
Yes. There's a voice recorder that captures straight from your mic, plus tools to cut, merge, compress, and transcribe audio. You can record in the browser or upload an existing file.
Is there a file size limit?
It varies by tool. File conversion takes up to 300 MB per file and 5 files per batch. PDF tools take up to 100 MB, audio tools 200 MB, and video tools 500 MB. Background removal, upscaling, and photo restoration take images up to 50 MB. Limits can change.
Does converting reduce the quality of my file?
It depends on the formats. Converting between lossless formats like PNG to BMP keeps full quality. Converting to a compressed format like JPEG or MP3 drops a little quality, though it is usually hard to notice. Keep your original if you might reconvert later.
Does it work on my phone?
Yes, on both iOS and Android. Open ChangeMyFile in your phone's browser and use any tool or converter. There is nothing to install from an app store.
Can I process several files at once?
Yes. Conversion handles up to 5 files in one batch, and each file can go to a different format. The merge tools for PDF, audio, and video also take several files at once.
