What happens to your file
This page says where each tool processes your file, how long an uploaded file is kept, and what we suggest for files you would rather not upload at all.
In short
We are a tool, not a place to keep files.
ChangeMyFile is a browser toolkit for working with files. It is not a storage, backup, or archiving service.
- →Temporary. Uploaded files are deleted automatically after processing, normally within 24 hours.
- →No backups. We do not keep backup copies and cannot recover a file once it is removed.
- →Automated. Processing is automated. We do not review the contents of your files as part of it.
- →Your files, your call. Only process files you have the right to use, and keep your own copy.
Which tools upload your file
Some tools never upload your file. Some have to. Here is which is which, so you know before you drop a file in.
Stays in your browser
The file is read and changed on your device and is not sent to us.
- PDF editor, plus sign, redact, highlight, stamp and draw on PDF
- Image compress, crop, resize, passport photo and paint
- Voice recorder
- File viewer
Uploaded to our servers
The file converter and the video tools upload to our storage on Cloudflare R2 through a one-time link. The other server tools upload to our backend directly.
- File converter, for every format conversion
- PDF merge, split, compress, passwords, and PDF to and from Word and Excel
- Audio cutter, compressor and merger
- Every video tool
Sent on to an AI service
These upload to our servers, which pass the file to an outside AI service to run the model.
- Background remover
- Image upscaler
- Old photo restorer
- Audio transcriber
When a tool uploads your file
Upload over HTTPS
The file is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection, the same as the rest of the site.
Processing
The job runs on our servers. Four tools pass the file on to an outside AI service, as listed above.
Download
The result is served through a link made for that job.
Deletion
The original and the result are deleted automatically after processing, normally within 24 hours, whether or not you downloaded them.
What we do not do
No account
No email address, registration or login is needed to use any tool.
No sale of your data
Ads pay for the site. We do not sell your files, your results or your activity. Details are in the Privacy Policy.
No file review
Processing is automated. We do not open or review the contents of your files as part of it.
No backup copies
Files are not archived. Once removed, they cannot be restored by us.
For sensitive files
No upload is risk-free, and we cannot guarantee that a file is never exposed. For anything confidential:
- Prefer the tools that stay in your browser, listed above. The file never leaves your device.
- Download your result promptly, and avoid shared or public computers.
- Keep your own copy before uploading. We cannot recover a deleted file.
- Only process files you have the right to use.
If you find a security problem on the site, please tell us through the Contact page.
