Frequently asked questions
Does rotating a video reduce its quality?
No. By default we flip the rotation flag in the file metadata without touching the video stream, so the picture is identical to your upload. Most files finish in under a second this way.
When would I need to re-encode?
Some players ignore rotation metadata and show the video the original way. If that happens, turn on Re-encode under Advanced. The video stream is rewritten so the rotation is baked in and every player shows it correctly. Re-encoding takes longer and the file may be slightly different in size.
Which video formats are supported?
MP4, MOV, MKV, WebM, AVI, M4V, 3GP, FLV, and WMV up to 500 MB. You get the output back in the same container you uploaded.
How long does it take?
The metadata flip is usually under a second once the upload finishes. Re-encoding depends on the length and resolution of your clip, but most videos under a couple of minutes are done in well under a minute.
